Stripe Agrees to Buy the OpenRouter Model Gateway
The Signal
On August 19, Stripe agreed to acquire OpenRouter, a model gateway that routes requests across more than 400 models from more than 80 providers. Stripe did not disclose a price.
OpenRouter said it will keep its name and product, that the transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and expected to close in the coming weeks, and that it processes more than 10 trillion tokens a day for more than 10 million developers and companies. Reuters, citing a source, said the buyout was valued at over $8 billion.
Stripe's chief executive called tokens the central currency for companies building with AI.
The Noise
Treating a source's "over $8 billion" as a price Stripe has confirmed.
The Enterprise Impact
The routing layer many teams use to switch models is moving under a payments company, and the close has not happened. Buyers should not budget from a valuation Stripe has not published, and they should not assume an integration change on the announcement date.

Anthropic, Macquarie, and GIC Launch Theseus Infrastructure
The Signal
On August 10, Anthropic, Macquarie Asset Management, and GIC announced Theseus Infrastructure, a platform to develop, operate, and lease data centers to Anthropic under long-term agreements. The initial focus is the United States.
Funds managed by Macquarie will, together with GIC, own the platform and fund the majority of the equity for each project. Anthropic will cover electricity price increases that consumers might otherwise face from these sites, in line with commitments it had already made.
The announcement did not disclose a total investment, a capacity figure, or a list of sites.
The Noise
Filling in a dollar figure or a campus map the parties did not publish.
The Enterprise Impact
Claude capacity is being financed as dedicated leased infrastructure, not only as cloud reservations. Multi-year Claude buyers still have no public date for when a Theseus site comes online.

OpenAI Contracts About 8 Gigawatts at PORTS-Pike
The Signal
On August 17, OpenAI said it had agreed to secure approximately 8 gigawatts-IT at the PORTS-Pike Technology Campus in Pike County, Ohio, on the site of the former Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant, working with SB Energy, NVIDIA, and the U.S. Department of Energy.
SB Energy will build, own, and operate the data center under a 20-year lease to OpenAI, and the site will exclusively host NVIDIA AI compute. The first 800 megawatts are expected in 2028, largely on existing AEP infrastructure, with a six-year buildout through 2032.
OpenAI said the project is expected to create 35,000 construction jobs and 2,500 long-term operating jobs, that it will put $40 million into a community grant fund on top of SB Energy's previously announced $40 million, and that it will make up to $84 million in Codex credits available to eligible Ohio college students. NVIDIA's Form 8-K the same day said NVIDIA entered residual value guaranties covering leases of approximately 4.25 gigawatts of IT load, with its aggregate payment obligation cumulatively capped at $105 billion for that initial commitment, and that it can extend credit support to about 3.8 gigawatts more at its discretion.
OpenAI said NVIDIA will invest $1.5 billion in SB Energy and provide credit support for the initial 4.25 gigawatts. The $105 billion figure is a cap on NVIDIA's guaranty obligation, not a stated cost for the campus.
The Noise
Calling the $105 billion guaranty cap the price of the campus.
The Enterprise Impact
A large block of future OpenAI capacity is a 20-year lease whose first 800 megawatts are not expected until 2028. Enterprises buying OpenAI services in 2026 are not buying this campus yet.
The guaranty also puts NVIDIA on the hook for lease shortfalls if OpenAI misses payments, up to the stated cap.

DeepSeek Formally Releases V4 Pro at a Premium Price
The Signal
On August 13, DeepSeek formally released its V4 Pro model, Reuters reported, and priced it several times higher than V4 Flash as a premium flagship. Artificial Analysis, as cited by Reuters, priced V4-Pro-0813 at $1.32 per million input tokens and $3.96 per million output tokens.
A separate DeepSeek statement the same day, also reported by Reuters, said API prices for V4-Pro and V4-Flash would rise on August 17, with peak and off-peak rates running from 50 percent to 1,100 percent above then-current prices depending on the model, the token type, and the time of use.
The Noise
Reading a headline multiplier as a single rate that applies to every token on August 13.
The Enterprise Impact
A lab many teams chose for price is now selling a flagship above its cheaper sibling, with a further API increase dated four days later. Any workload pinned to DeepSeek has to be re-quoted on V4 Pro, and peak-hour rates have to be checked before the August 17 change is treated as live.

Google Cloud Previews Gemini Enterprise for Financial Services
The Signal
On August 25, Google Cloud unveiled Gemini Enterprise for Financial Services, initially in preview for capital markets and corporate banking. The package adds a Google-managed Financial Research agent, more than 50 skills, and 13 connectors to market data, news, filings, and internal databases, on the governed Gemini Enterprise platform.
Deutsche Bank, a design partner, said it will use the agent in its Corporate Bank. Google Cloud said CME Group is also using the preview.
The Noise
Treating a preview for two financial verticals as a general-availability product for every industry.
The Enterprise Impact
Regulated banks now have a packaged agent for research, with connectors and an audit story, rather than a general chatbot pointed at market data. Deployment is still a preview.
A buyer outside capital markets and corporate banking should not assume the same package is theirs to turn on.
